AMN Healthcare’s Revenue Cycle Solutions is currently hiring for multiple remote Certified Tumor Registrar positions at top level facilities and healthcare organizations across the United States. The CTR manages cancer patient databases, recording information that may be used to help detect cancer earlier, improve treatments and increase survival rates. Responsibilities and duties include and are not limited to:

  • Examines/abstracts medical and pathology records to determine patient eligibility for the cancer registry. Translates the medical terminology into standardized codes that record a complete summary for the patient's disease from diagnosis through lifetime. The information is not limited to the episodic information contained in the health care facility The summary or abstract is an ongoing account of the cancer patient's history, diagnosis, treatment, and current status.
  • Supports leadership of the multidisciplinary Cancer Committee to meet the regulatory standards by demonstrating in-depth knowledge of the American College of Surgeons (ACS) and the Commission on Cancer (CoC) Accreditation Program Standards. Provides consultative services on many issues including cancer registry management and analysis of the standards. Actively participates and presents information to support standards during routine mandatory Cancer Committee
  • Compiles and reports cancer statistics for various healthcare agencies including National Cancer Data Base (NCDB), CoC, and state regulatory agencies. Data submitted is used to provide feedback to assess the quality of care and enables cancer programs to compare treatment and outcomes with regional, state and national patterns of care. Registrar utilizes multiple systems and various reporting tools for submission of data and meets the required reporting deadlines.
  • Conducts lifetime follow-up activities with cancer registry patients to track their progress; protecting patient information and assisting with special projects.
  • Collects, calculates, analyzes and interprets numerical data related to cancer occurrence, management and outcome measurements through data requests as needed.
  • Creates routine and ad-hoc reports as requested by internal and external customers.
  • Develops and performs prospective and retrospective quality control monitoring to evaluate the completeness and accuracy of registry information including visual inspection, audits of case-finding procedures, re-abstracting through peer review, edit checks and physician review.
  • Works closely with physicians, administrators, researchers, and health care planners to provide support for cancer program development, ensures compliance of reporting standards, and serves as a valuable resource for cancer information with the ultimate goal of preventing and controlling cancer.
  • Participates in improving cancer care by providing data to support research studies, Cancer Conferences case findings, and facilitating guidelines and policy development.
  • Provides support and leadership preparedness for the required onsite survey conducted every three years to maintain accreditation. Assists Commission on Cancer Specialist with information to complete the Pre-Review Questionnaire (PRQ) in advance of surveyor visit as required by the Accreditation Program.
  • Attends the Cancer Center's NAPBC National Accreditation Program for Breast Center and NAPRC National Accreditation Program for Rectal Cancer as needed to represent cancer registry needs and requirements.
  • Develops and maintains policies and procedures related to the cancer registry in accordance with the Accreditation Program.
  • Maintains continuing knowledge in the area of cancer data management and related topics by staying abreast of changes in medical practice and the Accreditation Program.
  • Performs other job-related responsibilities as requested.



  • Strong experience in cancer case abstracting for most disease sites (Complete > 5 abstracts/8 hr day)
  • Experience working with EHR
  • Certified Tumor Registrar Certification

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with cancer abstracting softwares
  • Strong casefinding skills
  • Comfortable getting data from multiple databases/EHRs/resources
  • Complete case abstraction of cancer disease site
  • Works well with minimal oversight/independent/self-starter
  • Not afraid to ask questions
  • Open to constructive feedback
  • Detail oriented
